Certificate in Digital Application (CiDA)

Exam Board – EDEXCEL

The Course

Students are required to produce electronic portfolios and a variety of publications which demonstrate an astute awareness of audience and purpose. All work produced will be assessed electronically by a teacher and an external examiner. The focus is mostly on the practical application of ICT. Students are given a ‘Summative Project Brief’ by the Exam Board – a scenario with problems to solve using ICT. There is a keen emphasis on demonstrating progression during the project, evaluating suitability of their publications and legislation such as Copyright, Designs and Patents Act; students must ensure that their publications adhere to such legal requirements.

Coursework Unit                                       75% of total marks

The controlled practical assessment (25%) involves students undertaking a 2.5 hour practical computer-based examination consisting of one task divided into two activities:

  • Creating a web product for a specified audience and purpose, using a client brief
  • Evaluating the product

These qualifications prepare students for the real world of work or further education. They are designed to stimulate students’ creativity and develop real-world, practical skills that motivate learning across a wide range of subjects.
